Williams
Production Company was seeking an alternative to conventional NPDES
surface water discharge for management of its produced water and
asked CES to develop a plan for the evaluation, design, permitting,
construction, operation and monitoring of a land-based water management
system. The Kingsbury CBM project site was selected for the location
of the first demonstration project.
CES
has developed a 100 acre site for demonstrating the beneficial use
of CBM water and confirming the most cost effective and performance
effective soil/water amendments. The site consists of a small reservoir,
pump, pipeline and center pivots for applying the CBM water injection
equipment for adding water amendments and traditional agricultural
equipment for the application of the soil amendments. CES is managing
the complete site.
As
a part of the demonstration project, CES is monitoring the soil
on a weekly basis initially looking for changes in SAR, EC and pH
and soil moisture to confirm the movement of water through the soil
profile. On a monthly basis, complete soil chemistry and hydraulic
properties will be determined. Performance of each of the soil/water
treatments is being evaluated on the collected data and cost.
Preliminary
results indicate CES has identified cost effective methods for managing
CBM produced water for beneficial use in the production of range
forages for livestock and wildlife.
